Freedom! Not "Free Damn!"

Proverbs 10: 19 (“When there are many words, transgression is unavoidable, but he who restrains his lips is wise.”)

“A” and I had an argument touching the current intense issue on Cybercrime Law. It somehow has something to do with her being “Bleeped” as she has “frantically” posted. The bible verse above was my line of reasoning to point out how it should rather be surmised. Somewhat close to “don’t give me that crap” reckoning, she insinuated for me not to go biblical on her. Quite upset, like any normal person perhaps, “A” found that to be unrealistic other than corny. With her rolling eyes and relentless look seemingly taken aback by such pious conviction: “Really, you’re going to use that interpretation on me?!” Yes, I answered. And yes, it may sound trivial and overly idealistic but come to think of it, that’s what’s lacking actually; thus the whole “cyber upheaval”.

#stopthehate #spreadlove

Yet unconvinced and to rather face up to the already heated subject with her emotion in full swing, a big ‘NO’ to my outward “holier-than-thou” reasoning was it for her. eN! Ow! NO! As if implying “Naman Omeng!” to be what ‘NO’ stands for, she was all over my face – fuming. No, I’m not that religious. I’m in fact quite sinful. Though face-to-face with “A’s” enraged look, (lunok) I came close to making the sign of the cross… sc”A”ry (lol) Deemed to be scarier however is the provisions of the newly enacted Cybercrime Law.

What’s really scary however is not-knowing-yet-already-believing the negative implications of this intensely debated topic. It further tends to inject fear considering how it’s blatantly misconstrued to be appalling. My immediate concern though is what I’ve already expressed in a previous post. There’s nothing to worry about if one is as reasonable in conveying a message. Quite a number of heads as a matter of fact openly pronounce their “freedom of speech/expression” as if without any signification of answerability towards others. It’s not freedom to take away other’s freedom from abuse. Take into account, an impulsive surge of expressed feelings triggered by anger or frustration even if it could be just it and mean nothing utterly weighty, it could still hurt…

We may not be to blame on how others would feel but does that come with being insensitive as well? Thus, being careful of imparting one’s thought should be a sensible articulation. Or is there even a need (or fulfillment) to broadcast someone else’s booboo? Is there satisfaction in being mean? Stop the hate. That said, it doesn’t mean I am for the Cybercrime Law. It’s just that I don’t have to precisely shout- it-out to the world how disappointing one entity is… As I’ve pointed out, one can be communicative enough without being too (or directly) disparaging at the expense of someone’s emotions. That someone like anyone of us has a family who likewise gets hurt. That pain is contagious. We don’t want to gain recognition through some malicious post (or even a comment) by merely riding-on with the popularity of the subject matter; and worst, by injecting a misleading “painful outline”.

There are always two sides of a story. The severity of defaming online is much more critical given the scope of its reach compared to offline… I believe that’s the reason why such law on virtual offense has been deliberated to yield a more severe consequence… On the other hand, if I were the victim of a “libelous testimonial”, I don’t have to rely on some regulation; I’d beat the crap out of that “bleep bleep!!” right there and then – oops kidding… I mean joooooke (lol).

Let us just hope that the Cybercrime Law be amended to have a balance and a rational objective. If not, it could probably have the likes of (say for instance) a bully beating-up a traffic enforcer caught on video make tons of money suing everyone who’d virtually spread how his act shouldn’t be emulated… or the likes of some defensive politician who can’t handle criticisms cover-up the probable truth behind the condemnations; then move on with those issues totally forgotten… Freeeedooooooommm damn damn deeram damn damn deeramdam 🎼 🎹 🎧

Stop The Hate

And spread the love... I could have used “Spread The Love” for a title and the “stop the hate” for an onset instead... However, nowadays, a more intriguing issue leaning on negativity stirs a more engaging traction; when subject is abject. “Vilify and it goes viral; praise and it (apparently) goes to waste...” Also, I could have just merged the two as it should be; given that when you stop the hate, it should correspond with spreading the love. But then, what’s rampant along today’s society is how people would rather pay attention to other people’s “negative attributes” to conjure up prodding against those being maligned instead of focusing on (their) fine qualities that merit compliments. For some, they forego of the possibility of being labeled as “humble brags” which similarly get misinterpreted (probably out of envy) and turn into critical imputations from others. Thus, they turn into the opposite as critics instead and express something else against anyone/thing from

Rain, Rain, Go Away. Walang Pasok Anyway

“Walang pasok” might as well be for “wala ng (puma)pasok na pag-unawa” among us... Suspension of classes during this rainy/typhoon season here in Baguio and Benguet has been a constant issue. Both are under separate government units. Thus, its respective local government’s discretion on such weather-concerning decision is rather sought, apparently for all the “authority and liability” aspect’s worth. One major concern however is that, there seems to be a discrepancy on the two governing bodies’ jurisdictions along the inclement weather’s path (and radius), geographically within a common “area of responsibility” which raises these concerns: Baguio is in Benguet What if a student happens to be a resident of, say, La Trinidad but studies in Baguio or vice versa... Do we have to rely (every time) on their discretion? How about considerations leaning towards common sense which could affect one’s academic performance (isn’t that ironic) ... will it be taken against the stud

Uncles and Aunties of Baguio: Who We Are is Who We Were

While it’s true that it was patterned from, as well as inspired by the far more reaching “Titos and Titas of Manila” Facebook group which apparently has been conceptualized from its recently implied premise, “ Uncles and Aunties of Baguio “ on the other hand was initially thought of and created for the purpose of a more nonchalant acceptance given its commonplace exclusivity other than reliving the good old times as an acknowledgment of the difference from any other generation. Come to think of it, the connotation behind “Tito/Tita of (what place) ” as currently referred to doesn’t actually have “that sweet” forethought. It’s almost leaning towards “that sourness” caught between “nagmumurang kamatis” and being “may asim pa” ... Imagine (say) one in his 40s at a party among a bunch most likely half his age “leveling” with the young ones still yet courteously addressed as “Tito” (not to mention, that’s with ”po” and ”opo” )... However, not to appear defensive and at the same ti
