Beauty is in the Eyes of the (Be)holder

Regardless of how we see one thing, it’s bound to be viewed differently by others. That’s even in reference to others’ liking as compared to the inclination of those from it has a partial attachment. What if the matter at hand is pertaining to physical attributes of people? Needless to say, people have different tastes and inclined from that of different standards. Those with a soft spot for (say) the “assessed” person will probably be defensive of any criticism in contrast with how they positively consider the looks of that person they’ve kind of developed fondness for. Children for instance or babies for that matter, in most likely probability, they’ll be considered adorable by their own parents. Even with a decent disposition in line with accommodating the stark reality bequeathed among them or their children, it would still be hurtful for parents to hear (from other people) how “ugly” their children are. It may not be attributed directly but anything suggestive of an insensitive ...

BUT WHY? That's Why!

You know how despite your keenness in exemplifying sense of responsibility that even encompassing circumstances could attest to such commitment, however, some people try to invalidate it just so to elude their own ineffectuality at the expense of your credibility? That sucks! What’s worse is when you can’t seem to defend yourself when that person happens to be superior in position. Yet even worst is when such authority is used to rather gain on subordinates as a means to show who is boss… BUT WHY? This is one common occurrence in work places of which there are values we could learn from as well as do something about it. As normal as it is, we could be as natural in expressing disgust. That would similarly be understandable. With all the right and with circumstantial substantiation to back your claim, you could elevate the concern and refute the other party’s contention if only to point out your side of the story or perhaps even clear your name. BUT WHY? Being vocal about it thoug...

Of Fashionable Taste and Tasteful Fashion

Fashion is dictated by taste. Or about taste… Is it? During big celebrity gatherings, defining moments for Stars usually get defined with if not by a fashion faux pas. Considering that a Star could have self-expressed gratification over her choice of dress (or gown to even wear it in the first place) only to be criticized with that of poor fashion sense, who then is more credible, the Star or the critic? Isn’t the dress designed by someone tasteful enough to be in the business? The more pushy questions could be, “Are fashion designs (even tastes) based on standards or expression of the artist behind it?” Are fashion designers (or critics) to dictate what is acceptable or not? Aren’t they being cynical about their objective as designers when similarly being disapproving of their co-fashion designers’ work? Having witnessed a fashion show of some sort yesterday, I personally thought that the outfits were outlandish unless if it were for costume purposes. The use of indigenous material...

To Each His Own

“No man is an island” is an idiom that means people essentially depend on one another as much as people live for others. I suppose even one’s self-centered tendency expresses some point on how such selfishness allows others who are not to realize their windfall for not being one. But if such egotism influences others to rather be the same, it exemplifies how “no man is an island” should rather be responsibly considered. Other people live their lives with the thought that living it their way without regard for what others will feel as it is their life anyway clearly substantiates their naivety on social responsibility or social relation if I may say so. If self-expression is the reason then do it privately if the only purpose is to assert it for your own satisfaction in the first place. However, if publicly addressed, expect people’s individuality not to uncompromisingly conform with your thoughts as well. Being defensive of criticisms further manifests your egocentricity. How ironic ...

Food for Thought: Divided Odors, United Colors

At times, having an appetite for something pleasing to the palate comes about as hunger strikes. Dining out allows one to satisfy such craving. From the menu, food names or even the images are cooked up to be favorably inviting; not to mention the enticing aroma. Partial of anything hot and spicy, I ordered “Spicy Roasted Squid” from a Korean restaurant we were to dine in for the first time. As it turned out, I was just able to fill my stomach, fulfill my hunger yet spill dissatisfaction (Burp! Fart! Sigh). Subsequently, passing through some American sounding Chinese restaurant, my wife thought we could have dined there instead. I can’t complain though. Perhaps, I ordered the wrong food. For all I know, what I had could be someone else’s heavenly treat. Makes me wonder, are food experts/critics’ taste buds same as anyone else to be credible enough to know what tastes good or what doesn’t for others? Oops, just a ‘pungent’ thought. Lest their exquisite taste will smell fishy, let us ju...

AB(solutely)NORMAL

Fetching my mother from the grocery last Sunday, I’ve picked up ire as well. She was about to board the car when a cab driver wouldn’t allow her to comfortably and safely get in as he continued to unpleasantly drive towards her. As if that wasn’t enough, he rudely shouted at my mom saying she shouldn’t be boarding where we were – in a drop-off point where they too pick up their passengers. That ticked me off! I was behind the car as I just closed the compartment door right beside the cab driver. Having witnessed his arrogance, I approached and disdainfully cursed him. Pointing out his disrespectfulness seemingly admonishing him of how would it affect him if such is similarly done to her mother, I bullied him. I was somewhat harsh. The cab driver’s face suddenly changed into a terrified-pitiful look. Guilty, I knew I could have been more diplomatic… Spur of the moment rather got the better off me… If my bullying of him was witnessed by anyone, chances are, their sympathies will be ...

On the Boyle

Seeming cold water suddenly boiling... A wake-up call that awoke her from a dream… She sang “I Dreamed a Dream” and now living her dream. And indeed as how one judge (Amanda Holden) thoughtfully put it – "The biggest wake-up call ever" that has also awakened skeptics into believing… More than anything else, she’s an epitome of hope. An unknown character from a small village “somewhere” to someone by which an introduction isn’t seem to be longer needed what with how she’s conquering the world by storm and establishing her identity. From a Scottish woman to a world figure… Watch her and understand why she is our Monday’s “Man Day”… She proved that judging a book by its cover is an injudicious thing to do. Likewise, pitiful are actually those who think pathetic of others… just when a douse of cold water is what should have woke them up, they needed something (or rather someone) Boyle-ing.

Reality Check

Image
It's funny when we tend to criticize a certain story, may it be a movie or TV drama perhaps, for its unrealistic plot. Whereas it makes critics out of us or pull the wool over our eyes, we seem to be unaware of our own life's unlikely story lines. Though it's realistic for us to assess these unbelievable movie themes, we become the opposite in dealing with our own "drama". There's partiality with our reasoning, very much the subject we tend to disapprove of. That's the truth, however reality bites. Here are 5 reality check 'list': MOVIE : We approve ( giggle ) of two people falling in love with each other and having an affair despite both being attached to their respective "cruel" partners who end up as the anti-heroes we "hate" for being the hindrance to the two "in-love" characters as we assent to separation or what have you as long as they end up together. REALITY : Will we still feel the same way if the ...
