I Wish

At this point in my life, it would be nice to get some 'R and R'. Celebrating four decades of existence through some breather from all the toiling throughout the years is what I seek and what will continually be sought after. Having reached this age, anyone would most likely envision being in a stress-free situation. However, that would most likely contend with and allow us to realize still the purpose of our being. For a while there, you’d also reflect back on the ‘what-ifs’ and ‘what-would-have-beens’ as much as what you have accomplished so far that of which somehow molded your essence and probably determine who you will further be. It would be hypocritical of me to deny that I’m not aspiring for the finer things in life. I want ‘this’, I want ‘that’… too many of ‘those’ actually… There’s no need to elaborate on what those are if only to point out the difference between the ‘wants’ from the ‘needs’; the necessities from priorities as much as the luxuries from what’s really...

1 – Happy New Year! Another 1 – Who knows if we really have just 1 year left? 1 more thing – There’s 1 convincing point as to 2011’s onset having too many 1s – 1-1-11 It could be a prequel to 2012 the movie where such year was depicted to be the end of the world. Timely as it is, it’s the New Year we’re currently celebrating representing new beginning. Positively, what better way to instigate any inception but with that of something depictive of “number 1”… 2011, as it is, has 2 1s. Thus, it’s indicative of preference. Either you become the 1 or just another 1. Not that anyone has to be the best at whatever it is that’s aimed for but at least be driven by hope amidst challenges to somehow achieve progress. Under the circumstance, we are given opportunities as to how we are to make do of developmental possibilities before the unpredictable doomsday. In going through it, we are as well given options on how we are to go about it. Fittingly, as hinted earlier, 2011 is about having 2 choic...

Resolution

Before anything else, Happy New Year! There are so many things people are up to in line with the onset of a new year. Fireworks (or the use of firecrackers) are thought to steer the New Year free of negativity. It’s thought to have the power to fend off evil spirits terrified of loud bangs. Then there is the observance of traditional beliefs: dressing in polka-dots, having 12 round fruits, sticky rice (malagkit) set forth on the table as well for a feast – signifying prosperity that is believed to stick around throughout the year. Prior to the clock ticking of the first second of the New Year even, doors (including windows, drawers…) are left wide open to welcome good fortune. And coins are to be put in one’s pocket to be jangled as a welcoming jingle for that expected wealth. Children are also asked to jump seemingly a more believable alternative for growth balls. Yet, there appears to be a more recognized habit regardless of culture and that is the conception of a new year’s reso...
