Air of Democracy and Diplomacy

Image
After “inhaling a breath of fresh air”, we exhale that sigh of relief... Election’s over! Much like how one holds her breath from a “stinky gust of air” reeking for quite a while, Baguio could now hopefully smell something that isn’t fishy... We are now to breathe an air of fresh hope and opportunity to start anew under a new brand of governance. More than having a new City Mayor, we have a leader! A new battle for this battle-tested highly-decorated leader... To lead Baguio under a disjoining process of sociological duplicity, members (citizens) should first learn to accept its new headship corresponding with solidarity. One man cannot do it alone. We need to unite. This past election saw how Baguio was in a state of discord. While we were given so many redundant options, it divided us into factions. Manifestation of that sense of entitlement with an assumed claim of exclusive right to Baguio under political inclinations and cultural/societal partiality seemed prevalent. Wit...

Freedom! Not "Free Damn!"

Proverbs 10: 19 (“When there are many words, transgression is unavoidable, but he who restrains his lips is wise.”) “A” and I had an argument touching the current intense issue on Cybercrime Law. It somehow has something to do with her being “Bleeped” as she has “frantically” posted. The bible verse above was my line of reasoning to point out how it should rather be surmised. Somewhat close to “don’t give me that crap” reckoning, she insinuated for me not to go biblical on her. Quite upset, like any normal person perhaps, “A” found that to be unrealistic other than corny. With her rolling eyes and relentless look seemingly taken aback by such pious conviction: “Really, you’re going to use that interpretation on me?!” Yes, I answered. And yes, it may sound trivial and overly idealistic but come to think of it, that’s what’s lacking actually; thus the whole “cyber upheaval”. #stopthehate #spreadlove Yet unconvinced and to rather face up to the already heated subject with her e...

The Irony behind Yellow

Image
Yellow, more than the bright color that it is, its meaning is also ironically associated with cowardice. It is the color for a trademark of former Philippine President Corazon Aquino. Even before her passing, yellow ribbons were tied all over as a sign of respect and in support of Tita Cory (as she was fondly called) who was then battling with colon cancer. At least in that aspect, no signs of pessimism were manifested if only to wish our former President full recovery. Her point of view was sought for, thus, her recovery was then vital. Her presence has always been and would have been influential in persuading peace to rather be empowered through a democratic system. She has been, after all, instrumental as the principal figure representing every Filipino, in putting the Philippines in world history via People Power’s peaceful restoration of freedom back then. She's a global icon of democracy. True that her regime was the most beset with coup attempts. It is through one of these r...

Freedom 101

Image
The Philippines is celebrating its Independence Day today, June 12. Basing it to this date from when it all started, we are celebrating freedom for 111 years already. Apparently, there are opposing derivations as to the real date of our country’s liberty. Some historians will point out July 4, 1946 to be more opportune. Yet, today’s celebration of independence is founded on our liberation from Spain’s rule over a century ago. If we are to consider other deliverance from similar repressions we went through, then we would be celebrating too many “independence days”. What’s with freedom from one thing but restricted from another? Then again, how can we be commemorating our independence if we have not been entirely liberated? Regardless of when it took place, are we totally free? Conversely, how and when can we truly feel and say we’re free… In view of today’s occasion, I’m rather observing my emancipation from my work load albeit for just a day. Ho wever, I’m not completely unbound. I ...
