Turning 50: The Golden Retriever in Me

Image
Other than it’s one of my favorite breed of dogs, I’m retrieving gold this year as I turn “golden” ~ Five Zero! FIFTY!! The closest we got to having a Golden Retriever was having a Golden Dox. It’s a crossbreed between a Golden Retriever and a dachshund. He looked more like his dox (dachshund) father though. We named him Sandy. Sandy I’m like Sandy. He had the color (only the color though, not even the furry semblance) of a Golden Retriever, whereas for everything else, “dox” just about it. Sandy however was one strong dog who can actually pull something heavier than his own weight. Similarly, I’ve pulled and carried weighty setbacks as well as seemingly burdensome blessings-in-disguise. Not as obvious but Sandy seemed to have that strength of a big dog. I’ve carried “big dawgs and bigwigs” up their podiums. While it might even be attributable for that of their springtime or their golden era, I wasn’t formally conferred that “fair (golden)” level of recognition enough to be a “big dawg...

An Open Valentine’s Day Letter

Dear Joanne, Ane? Or would you prefer “Dear Ms. Fallarme”? Pardon the formality as calling you by what I’m used to would most likely spark off your sarcasm: “Don’t call me ‘Mommy’, I’m not your mother!” While in contrast, beginning this with “Dear Wifey” may well be spontaneous but would seem off. It’s after all a Valentine’s Day letter. Corny as it may sound, I think you rather want to be addressed as any of the more popular terms of endearment (you’re just in denial). Whereas “ Spicy ” as opposed to the usual “sweet” appellations and as I’ve considered you to be, directly aims to be (ironically) sweet; which isn’t the intention behind this. As a matter of fact, you don’t see me that way… or you simply find blandness in how I instinctively substantiate such “lovability”. Anyway, I similarly don’t intend to draw a “What the hell?!” reaction given that it’s not the normal “Awww” (with all the likely emoticons attached to it) kind for such a letter. Thus, this “o...

Health is Wealth, Wealth is Health

Image
As generic as any advice on wellbeing, from the title alone, this is diagnostic of how uncomplicated things should be. Likewise, how these basic things could be healthy. Perhaps (or sometimes), plainly pinpointing what it is would be more reassuring than a dose of tricky diagnosis. And before I sound to be rather extensive as well, I’m merely pointing out how some doctors should be caring of their patients and not their impatience. Apparently, they’re eager to convince their suspicions… For quick remuneration perhaps? Reason as to why their supposed expertise is sought is that their patient wants to most likely regain or maintain good health. Due respect for how they have studied and know the human anatomy and its functions similarly with its malfunctions. In the same way (or on the contrary?), whoever is seeking treatment is the one feeling the development or the damage. For the most part, it’s their body. Patients get conscious of every episode. Even so, that includes “unhealthy expe...

Dady Loko

Looking for a XXXL size diaper for my 3-year old son, I’ve realized that he is already big to still be using a diaper. Right there I thought the non-existence of such size means the “no-kid-as-big-as-that-could-still-be-using-one” probability (thus why even produce what would not sell thought the manufacturer perhaps)… Before he totally outgrows his current XXL-size for a baby diaper, he needs to learn how to practically answer those kinds of nature call. Practical it would be indeed as it will spare me of further expenditure. Though his Mamy Poko brand for a diaper could be proven to be more practicable as it lasts longer, still, the convenient non-use of it is rather preferred. Don’t get me wrong with my choice on trying to be cost-effective. It’s just that there may be a more inexpensive brand that could be as useful but causes diaper rash. We’ve been prodding him on how to use his potty trainer instead but to no avail. I’ve also shown him how to “manly” pee but only elicits amu...

BUT WHY? That's Why!

Image
You know how despite your keenness in exemplifying sense of responsibility that even encompassing circumstances could attest to such commitment, however, some people try to invalidate it just so to elude their own ineffectuality at the expense of your credibility? That sucks! What’s worse is when you can’t seem to defend yourself when that person happens to be superior in position. Yet even worst is when such authority is used to rather gain on subordinates as a means to show who is boss… BUT WHY? This is one common occurrence in work places of which there are values we could learn from as well as do something about it. As normal as it is, we could be as natural in expressing disgust. That would similarly be understandable. With all the right and with circumstantial substantiation to back your claim, you could elevate the concern and refute the other party’s contention if only to point out your side of the story or perhaps even clear your name. BUT WHY? Being vocal about it thoug...

Married Without a Wife

Image
It was my friends’ wedding last Saturday. Prior to tying the knot, they were on for 10 years. That brings me to the question – having been through a long engagement, would getting married be any different? Would quantity be qualitative enough? The reason behind the question is not because of my unawareness over the uncommonness of probabilities. I guess it boils down to how my marriage is… I was actually talking one co-employee out of getting hitched as I believe they were rushing into it. Then, there’s this friend I was teasing into settling down as it’s about time. However, I can’t seem to convince myself on how I’d go about my own. Lately (or as usual), my wife and I get into discussions that lead into heated arguments. Sad as it may be, it’s about sticking still with each other or otherwise. Bottom-line, she gets into my nerves as much as I get into hers. There seems to be a lot of irreproachable excuses for us to call it quits yet there are consequential reasons to hang on. If ...

AB(solutely)NORMAL

Fetching my mother from the grocery last Sunday, I’ve picked up ire as well. She was about to board the car when a cab driver wouldn’t allow her to comfortably and safely get in as he continued to unpleasantly drive towards her. As if that wasn’t enough, he rudely shouted at my mom saying she shouldn’t be boarding where we were – in a drop-off point where they too pick up their passengers. That ticked me off! I was behind the car as I just closed the compartment door right beside the cab driver. Having witnessed his arrogance, I approached and disdainfully cursed him. Pointing out his disrespectfulness seemingly admonishing him of how would it affect him if such is similarly done to her mother, I bullied him. I was somewhat harsh. The cab driver’s face suddenly changed into a terrified-pitiful look. Guilty, I knew I could have been more diplomatic… Spur of the moment rather got the better off me… If my bullying of him was witnessed by anyone, chances are, their sympathies will be ...

Customer Service 101

Image
Upon entering some establishment, we were welcomed with greetings uttered with passion. As soon as such welcoming was delivered, they proceeded with what they were doing as if the greeting was obligatory. I didn’t feel the sincerity. Though, I didn’t bother. Some sensitive customers would have reacted… While the misconstrued saying “The customer is always right” gives customers prerogative to loftiness, it gives service personnel conscientiousness to servitude. What is discontenting about this though is not the sense behind it, may it be politically right or otherwise, but the unlikely nature on how the workforce applies impartiality regardless of the situation it represents. Modesty and patience are considerable factors. These attributes are relatively important when interrelating with people from different walks of life. Accordingly, working in an environment where consumers as customers are the main source of an establishment’s bread and butter, they also deal with ‘indirect cu...
