A 'Key Reflection' we need to ponder on... |
Prior to Mayor Magalong’s first week in action, together with the other elected officials taking oath, he delivered his inaugural speech. Stated therein, he said:
“I wish to emphasize at the very start that I value the support and cooperation of the entire work force of the City Government as well as every colleague in the national government service. That means a lot to me, someone who desires no less than to make a difference for Baguio. With a strong partnership anchored on the principles of seamless cooperation, collaboration, coordination and communication, I am completely committed to make Baguio a better City for everyone. This I will do, not just as a Mayor, but as a leader who listens with a healthy respect to everyone, who leads by example, and someone who is willing to make the tough decisions at the right time.”
True enough, he started his first week with a strong message living up to the essence of that “inclusive governance” (excerpt above) for a commitment under such premise. It’s inspiring. It’s promising... But it can only be done with a supportive system wherein we are the supporting cast, similarly with our respective roles. Let’s act -- act on it... No more drama... Let’s move. Yet, more than a movement, there should be cooperation amidst differing opinions (likewise of clashing standpoints, inclinations, principles or what-have-you including those of the Mayor’s and from those of opposing parties/political rivals’).
Nonetheless, it’s politics! It’s wilder than the scenario of a dog-eat-dog world for a storyline. There are too many plot twists and turns that add up to the dramatics as if “politicians acting out their Oscar-winning performance of seemingly getting surprised from turn of events when confronted with an issue they pretend to have no knowledge about much like a scripted reality TV” isn’t a disturbing twist already that’s not expected from
However, as one team including the electorate and every citizen, we all should portray that invaluable contribution for a role. It’s imperative that we maintain that “General Patronage” kind of a story as we’re all part of it.
Working with the youth for a 'Rated G' appreciation... |
General Patronage indeed! Much like the former military General’s inspirational approach, Mayor Magalong’s patronage on having that initiative tends to rub off on people. We’re hoping though that it doesn’t selfishly affect them the wrong way wherein their expectation from their “best supporting performance” is to be awarded with a “dream role” so to speak...
“Ask not what your Mayor can do for you but rather ask what you can do for Baguio...”
And so, led by his example, we did. Referencing that famous and fitting quote, we’ve likewise acted on doing something for Baguio, something we believe is timely if only to start that call for change and for a better Baguio with a young generation-appropriate program focused on youth development along today’s social media generation last July 6.
Lower Lourdes Barangay SK Chairman, Ms. Gaby Cases |
Collaborating with Lower Lourdes Barangay’s Sanggunian Kabataan (SK) Chairman, Gaby Cases, we thought of imparting positivity given the impact of social media among users particularly how it could possibly influence the youth. The objective was to cascade it down and spread it through the different SK Chairmen given their clout among their young constituents. Apparently, most of these young leaders seem to lose the drive given their current “underpaid/under-appreciated” status... The lack of participants from the SK in general though, the Latter Day Saints Church Youth and a few from District 15 made up for it.
We want to amend the stereotypical assessment on the usually negative connotation of “millennials”. The youth ought to be taken seriously through their own volition with constructive supervision. Thus the program’s title, “Youth is REAL (Responsibly Empowered As Leaders): SOCIALly MEDIAting APPropriately” considering today’s generation’s technological breakthrough and the impact it has on them and the society in general.
My 'Dadbod' isn't a hindrance to provide "Parental Guidance" |
Understanding SK’s problem on budget, there was a need for “Parental Guidance” in a manner of speaking... Yes, speaking! As a motivational speaker to convey that parental teaching without charge except for the “parental” fulfillment of preparing kids for their future amidst adversities. Inspired by Baguio’s new father’s plan for a better Baguio, we likewise started to act on it. What better way to initiate our own little contribution than to start with the youth for all its worth moving forward... Rather than wait, complain or argue, do your share -- positively... and “think before you click”. We aim a “Best Picture” scenario for Baguio under the former General’s patronage... “There are no small roles, only small actors”. Yet, let’s positively justify Baguio’s ‘General Patronage’ rating...
