Na-Bea Ka Na Ba? The Haunting of Bea’s Ghost

Image
‘Ghosting’ is a colloquial term which means a sudden cutting of relationship ties without a slight hint of bailing out and due explanation... Yet in simpler or a currently more popular connection (yet ironically about disconnection), it’s referred to as “na-Bea Alonzo” in reference to how the actress Bea Alonzo was a victim of ghosting by her now ex-boyfriend Gerald Anderson. Their celebrity status makes the whole thing a much talked about issue. Thus in this case, it’s ironic how ghosting lacks “presence” ( Ang ghost nagpaparamdam - Why is it even called ghosting then?) Similarly, ghosting herein seems to refute its allusion to “no communication” as the whole thing has been relayed in so many ways... An unfortunate way to be relieved from ghosting; more so, find out that you’re no longer a thing... Not as simple as ABC - complications of "XYZ" -- “Circulation, Speculation” - through some social media posting, it confirmed the ghosting by her “X” as to “Y”; it should...

Councilor Cayabas: More Than Just A “Boy Wonder”

Image
As the only first-time councilor corresponding with his fledgling aspiration into the political scene with an outward boyish semblance, among the city council, Councilor Vladimir Cayabas may as well be the “Robin to Baguio’s Batman.” Deemed as the most celebrated sidekick (used to associate for that of the likes of Kobe to Shaq, Kyrie to LeBron or Pippen to Jordan paving the way to establishing their own go-to-guy stature) , being ‘Robin’ though has a deeper sense of commitment and responsibility more than just a close associate. Looking at how Batman’s Robin, in due course, imbibed that sense of leadership anchored on interdependency, Vladimir Cayabas’ ascendancy is transcending into a bigger role. Much like Robin eventually establishing his authority through the ‘Teen Titans’, Cayabas is now entrusted to chair the committee on education, culture and historical research as well as represent the local school board. These will all equate with his complementing role in assisting ...

VM Olowan Holds The Door

Image
After featuring the “key”   (with that key for unity) , now let us open the door... If it were a series like ‘Game Of Thrones’ considering its relatable political positioning, ‘GOT’ could as well stand for G entle-giant O lowan’s T ime... He’s not "Jon Snow" cause he knows things... and about him, we've heard good things... Fondly referred to as a ‘gentle giant’ given his stature (in both senses of the word), former Councilor and now Baguio City’s Vice Mayor-elect could have appealed among the electorate with such meekness for a distinction. With this assumed attribute, corresponding with his role in a legislative capacity, I see him in GOT’s beloved character, ‘Hodor’. Aside from the “figurable” similarity, quite fitting as well is how Hodor’s seeming minor role eventually revealed the character and name’s weight and substance along a momentous turn of events... And along this time of a new door opening for Baguio, Vice Mayor Faustino Olowan is presented with a...

Magalong: Ang “Provensiya’no”

Image
If we are to analyze the very gist of the “FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano” story, it appertains to an underdog eventually proving his worth. It alludes to a newbie, underestimated to cope up and do well in the big city against the top guns. Much like how it was with Ret. Gen. Magalong prior to assuming his new role in the political arena. Thus, as for his status on the first few weeks as City Mayor, it can be surmised - “Proving siya ‘no...” Indeed (as much as ‘in deed’), he’s proving himself well so far . That brings us to the question, will he be able to sustain his level of no-nonsense approach on good governance? It has been raised, more so among rivals, detractors and doubters, that it’s just brought about by Magalong’s initial excitement and swaggering around. And for a ‘Ang Probinsyano-like’ storyline, the plot thickens by discrediting the protagonist with a critical devaluation of his good intentions... Let’s put it this way, no losing aspirant/contender with a bloated ego ha...

BENJ 10: The Dragon in Magalong

Image
Are we all in for the Dragon in Magalong? Mayor Benjie Magalong’s action plan is his 10-point agenda... It’s what’s believed to be the answer to Baguio’s matters in question. It’s a matter of correlation to every issue as to how it’ll fall into place. In consideration of how problems are interconnected with the cause and effect, just the 10-point agenda will suffice. And more than hoping it will, we are encouraged to cooperate. Let’s itemize each point relative to it’s aimed at problem in need of a solution. Yet before that, let’s identify what’s upsetting Baguio based on the survey we conducted last November as to the most concerning issues we’re currently dealing with: Environment: While this may in fact refer to the kind of environment in general that we all live in, it has been assumed that it merely pertains to Baguio’s sought-after re-greening and revitalization initiative and its maintenance. Thus for now, we’ll leave it at what’s rather implied. Traffic Control/Managem...

Nobody Gets Left Behind

Image
Relative to Mayor Magalong’s “nobody gets left behind” flag raising ceremony speech is the essence of his ‘An Officer and Gentleman’ demeanor being applied for that of the welfare of Baguio. True to how he leads by example, members (city officials regardless of political affiliation and the public alike) are acknowledged as key figures in communally making Baguio a better place. Rather than solely capitalizing on a possible self-serving moment of extolling in glory, he offered such privilege among the councilors (and even to Congressman Mark Go). It’s some means to likewise share not just their thoughts but an equal opportunity for varied “voices to be heard” if only to manifest how to respect and balance society’s multifaceted representation essential in according Baguio a more unified nature and outlook towards ‘one Baguio’. With substantial mileage gaining national attention gauged in high regard, Mayor Isko Moreno is apparently bringing back his city’s glory from where he’s simi...

Baguio’s General Patronage Rating

Image
A 'Key Reflection' we need to ponder on... Prior to Mayor Magalong’s first week in action, together with the other elected officials taking oath, he delivered his inaugural speech. Stated therein, he said: “I wish to emphasize at the very start that I value the support and cooperation of the entire work force of the City Government as well as every colleague in the national government service. That means a lot to me, someone who desires no less than to make a difference for Baguio. With a strong partnership anchored on the principles of seamless cooperation, collaboration, coordination and communication, I am completely committed to make Baguio a better City for everyone. This I will do, not just as a Mayor, but as a leader who listens with a healthy respect to everyone, who leads by example, and someone who is willing to make the tough decisions at the right time.” Those pillars seemingly showing the letter "H" might as well stand for "Home" (...

Why Baguio is Losing its Chill without CURE...

Image
We can be literal about this as much as figurative... Whether it’s about the temperature or our temperament, it’s both environmental in nature. We used to be cool, as people and Baguio in general. What happened? What’s happening? Funny thing is that, amongst our opinionated society, there’ll be varied reasons why Baguio has lost its “cool breeze”. Yet, they don’t see how similarly cold (and cold-hearted) they’ve become, alienating even from ourselves (more so from non-Baguio or non-Baguio-born residents) the warmth in our good-natured Baguio disposition. Either way, it’s a correlative concern within the communal environment we live in. Same thing with how every one seem to have the answers to every problem based from their standpoint without looking at it from a wider perspective. And it’s also likely that they’re not that accepting of others’ point of view; or pridefully apathetic towards an idea different from that of their own... Worse though is from those who’d downplay a good ...
